On Saturday night, Madonna surprised the crowd during EDM artist Avicii's Ultra set and debuted his remix of her new song "Girl Gone Wild." While on stage, Madonna said, "Have you seen Molly?" referring, presumably, to both the drug MDMA and her new album MDNA.
Deadmau5, an artist who is easy to rile up and who has lashed out at electronic artists for their pop collaborations in the past, predictably freaked out. He went on an extended Tumblr rant against Madonna, indicting her for making drug references to sell her album, among other things.
In response, Madonna took to Twitter and responded with a photo of herself in mouse ears and a caption that read, "From one mouse to another, I don't support drug use and I never have. I was referring to the song called 'Have You Seen Molly' written by my friend Cedric Gervais who I almost worked with on my album."
So... she was referring to a song by a guy who she almost worked with on her album? Randomly, on stage at an electronic music festival? Where there are tons of people on club drugs? Come on, Madonna. How could she expect anyone to believe this?
Obviously we love Madonna, and we love Deadmau5, but Madonna's explanation of why she asked dance festival attendees if they'd seen a club drug is downright unlikely, and is insulting to Deadmau5 and her own fans.
But what do you think about her response? Tell us in the comment section below.
