Barbadian R&B singer Rihanna called in to Ryan Seacrest’s radio show this morning to talk about her fashion line but before he let her go, the American Idol host asked her the question that's stymied fans for the last month: Why is she working with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown again?

“I reached out to him about doing ‘Birthday Cake’ because that’s the only person that really made sense to do the record,” Rihanna says. “The hottest R&B artist out right now is Chris Brown, so I wanted him on the track. And then in turn he was like, ‘Why don’t you do the remix to my track’? It was a trade off.”

So there you have it. She instigated the musical reunion because she still thinks he’s the best in the game. More than that, she hopes her fans agree with her.

“We did two records. One for my fans, one for his fans, and that way our fans can come together. There shouldn’t be a divide, you know? It’s music and it’s innocent.”

What do you think about Rihanna's claim? If she’s willing to put the domestic abuse behind her, does that mean her fans must do the same? Is “innocent” a dangerous word to use here, given the message it might send to other victims? Tell us what you think below.
