You Need to Watch: Unknown Mortal Orchestra's Trippy Video

A dude is possessed by static electricity in this clip from the Portland, OR, band behind one of 2011's best albums

  /  April 5, 2012

One of my favorite discoveries of 2011 was Unknown Mortal Orchestra, the Portland, OR-based project of New Zealand singer-songwriter Ruban Nielson, the former frontman of Kiwi rockers the The Mint Chicks. UMO's self-titled debut was the bomb, and now one of its best tracks, the crunchy surf-dance rocker "Nerve Damage," gets a freaked out new music video. The gist: a dude's body is overtaken and controlled by a purple cloud of static electricity. Also: Lots of skulls, upside-down peace symbols and all things purple.
