First, Simon Cowell booted Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger from "The X Factor." Then rumors began to circulate about Britney Spears' possibly joining as a judge. Now, E! has confirmed that the singer has signed a one-year, $15 million deal with the show to join Cowell and returning judge L.A. Reid. A spokesperson for the show, however, refused to confirm the news, according to Billboard, and Fox had no comment.
"The contract is signed," E!'s unnamed source said gloriously, presumably while walking down a mountain in ancient chieftain robes holding two stone tablets. "There's been a lot of back and forth over the past few weeks as they negotiated the small details, but she's on. It's all completed and Britney is beyond excited."
While I mentally reel over the economics of making $15 million to berate and laud aspiring singers, I should probably give you more info. Last month, Spears agreed to a contract in principle, with "insiders" noting that money, unlike most other deals made in Hollywood, "was the big sticking point."
"She's ready for this," E!'s source continued. "She can't wait to sit down next to Simon at the judges' table and give this everything she's got. She is excited about showing the world that she can do this, and do this well. This is the perfect next stage in her career. Both Britney and Simon are very excited to work together." And there was never any friction ever. The end.
No word yet on if ex-husband Kevin Federline is negotiating to be on the presumable porn parody "The XXX Factor," but we'll keep you posted. The last time Spears was on a network show, as shown in "Britney & Kevin: Chaotic" below, she was telling the world about ditching Italian model douchebags on the side of the road. Never change, Britney.
