Spoon, Wolf Parade Frontmen Form New Band
Last Friday, May 18, news dropped that Handsome Furs, the project of Wolf Parade rocker Dan Boeckner and his wife, had broken up. Bummer. But what we get in return is, in my opinion, already promising to be much, much better: Meet Divine Fits, the brand new band from Boeckner, Spoon frontman Britt Daniel and New Bomb Turks drummer Sam Brown. Now that's a random (and super talented) group of folks.
There's no new music just yet, just a press release simply announcing the existence of said band. The statement does confirm that Divine Fits' yet-to-be-titled debut album will be released later this year by Merge Records. It was produced by Nick Launay, a post-punk producer who has worked with Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Nick Cave, Gang of Four, Killing Joke, the Slits, the Cribs and many, many others. Judging by the sounds of each members' back catalogue, and the speciality of Mr. Launay, I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict that Divine Fits will play driving, raw post-punk and lo-fi pop-rock. I hope I'm right.
More details on the record's release, live shows and more will be announced soon at the band's newly-minted Twitter page @divinefits and website.
Are you stoked to hear Divine Fits? While you think about that, listen to a few of my favorite tracks from Spoon, Handsome Furs and New Bomb Turks. Then tell me what you think in the comments below.
