LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM - MAY 25: Buzz Osborne of Melvins performs on stage during ATP Festival at Alexandra Palace on May 25,
Gary Wolstenholme

The Melvins, Kurt Cobain's favorite punk band (who just tried to sell their tour van decorated with the Nirvana frontman's drawings of KISS), are about to try to break a world record! The Washington Stave natives -- they grew up in Montesano, one town over from Cobain's Aberdeen -- are going for the fastest tour of the entire United States, which seems both amazing and suicidal, given the realities of old punk bands' tour life (read: unhealthy).

According to Spin, the trek begins September 5 in Anchorage, AK, and takes the band through 51 days of shows in all 50 states, before finally closing out in Honolulu, HI, on October 25. They will not have a single day off

The Melvins are supporting their 21st studio album Freak Puke, and the band will tour as a "lite" version with three players. That should free up some space in the van!

In a statement, bandleader King Buzzo said, "We figured it was time for us to do something really crazy... Jeez! I wonder if we can do it?"
