Metal fans aren't exactly the most sunshine-acclimated music listeners, so it's a great public service that Metallica's James Hetfield has designed a pair of shades for the headbanger who is forced to venture into the sunlight for extended periods of time.

Hetfield teamed San Fran-based company Sutro Eyewear to create "his ideal pair of sunglasses to wear both at home and on the road," which after much deliberation he decided to brand "The Hetfield." On Sutro's website, Hetfield describes them as "built to look faster than a speeding riff." You can take a gander at the elegant eyewear below, which is pictured in tortoise shell color but also comes in black, i.e., the color of a metalhead's soul.

Before you whip out your Metallica brand wallet and buy these, you might want to take a look at the price tag—these bad boys are going for $219.99. Why so much? Well, sure, you could get a pair at Target for less, but the Heftield sunglasses come with a "will not lose screws" guarantee. That's big news, because lost screws have long been acknowledged as the bane of eyeglass-wearing existence. Also, these suckers are equipped with a hinge "ten times stronger than a traditional hinge," which is sure to come in handy for those who've experienced the disgrace of accidentally flinging sunglasses off your head while headbanging at a concert.

What do you think of the Hetfield shades? Pretty awesome, right? But are they worth the price tag? Tell us in the comments below.
