Amy Winehouse's Ex-Husband Blake Fielder-Civil in "Drinking Binge" Coma
Isn't this just depressing: One year after the alcohol-related death of Amy Winehouse, her ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, is fighting for his life after he was rushed to a London hospital with multiple organ failure.
According to the Daily Mail, Fielder-Civil was found by his partner, Sarah Aspin, choking in bed Friday and was rushed to a hospital in West Yorkshire, England. The 30-year-old has reportedly been put into a medically induced coma and remains on life support.
According to The Sun, Aspin claimed that Fielder-Civil, who has a long history of substance abuse, arrived home on Thursday "slurring his words and staggering," like "he was on something." She soon called paramedics and when the EMT's arrived they noticed that Fielder-Civil had swallowed his tongue, choked on his vomit and that his left lung had stopped working. "The doctors say they don't know the prognosis," she said. "They said they put him in a coma to help him and due to infection."
Mitch Winehouse, Amy's dad, took to Twitter to urge her fans to pray for Fielder-Civil's recovery: "terrible news," he wrote. "Remember Amy loved him. Let's pray for his recovery."
Fielder-Civil met Winehouse in a pub in 2005 and the couple were married in Miami in 2007. Their marriage was rocky at best; the couple physically fought publicly and were notorious drug users. A series of arrests on drug and assault charges followed. Then, in 2008, Fielder-Civil was jailed for assault and thrown in the can again last year for burglary and imitation firearm possession. Winehouse and Fielder-Civil divorced in 2009.
