As one of the godfather's of West Coast gangsta rap (and, of course, a onetime member of the notorious Death Row Records crew), Dr. Dre knows a thing or two about music, crime and the connection between the two in his hometown of Los Angeles. Which is why cable network FX has inked a script-development deal with Dre and writer Sidney Quashi for a drama pilot that explores both the music and crime businesses in the City of Angels.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Quashi will be credited as both the creator and executive producer of the drama, while Dre is billed as an executive producer.
No word yet on the premiere or title of the show, but a quick peek at the song titles in Dre's massive catalogue and the ideas come a-flowin'. Here are six suggestions...
Nuthin' But a G Thang
California Love (and Hate)
Guilty Conscience
Keep There Heads Ringin'
Niggaz4Life: L.A. Confidential
Natural Born Killaz
Oh, and listen up show producers, can we have each episode end with a play back of Dre's "The Next Episode," focusing, perhaps, on Nate Dogg's star turn? I think yes.
