"I did some music with Kanye and from what I know, it's actually going to be the first song on his new album," Skrillex told the Daily Beast.
Skrillex didn't specify whether he'd been working on 'Ye's Cruel Summer, a showcase of the rapper's G.O.O.D. Music label artists (which we already know lots about), or his upcoming studio album, the follow-up to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. But if I had to guess (which, clearly, I do), I'd go with the latter because Cruel Summer drops in less than a month and, I'd hope, is already done. And, BTW, West has also reportedly worked with producers No I.D. and S1 on his next solo LP, and he also just confirmed that "Perfect Bitch," a solo track rumored to be on the next album, was written about his girlfriend Kim Kardashian.
In the interview Skrillex also took the opportunity to respond to deadmau5, another EDM DJ who loves to talk smack about his peers (or anyone else for that matter). In a recent issue of Rolling Stone, deadmau5 said this of Skrillex: "[He] isn't doing anything too technical. He has a laptop and a MIDI recorder, and he's just playing his shit."
Skrillex offered a legit response that, in my opinion, proves who is the bigger DJ (even if Skrillex is like three feet tall): "Listen, I’m proud of what I do and this is not directed towards Deadmau5 personally, but if you’re going to denounce something you’re a part of . . . the thing about DJing is it’s a platform to create a vibe," he said. "It’s all about creating an effect. The Ramones played f--kin' four chords. It's about the emotion, the movement, the music you create. The 'pushing buttons' criticism is just missing the point. You could invalidate anything if you wanted to."
Good answer. But either way, Skrillex is getting paid more than deadmau5 to push those buttons, so...
