When Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger and Avril Lavigne revealed they were not complete strangers but rather canoodling Canadians prepared to commit to each other for life, it pretty much took the entire music world by surprise. Now we've learned something that makes the story even stranger.

Although the first reports of Chavril's romance indicated the pair had enjoyed a six-month courtship, Kroeger's recent comments to People magazine indicate they were dating for a much, much shorter period. "We think it's very cool that our anniversary will always be on Canada Day," Kroeger gushed.

For those of us not from the Great White North, Canada Day is July 1. And since Mr. All the Right Reasons popped the question on August 8, that means these blonde-haired lovebirds were together for a mere five weeks of bliss before deciding they were fated to spend their lives together. But then again, why you gotta make things so complicated with a lengthy courtship?

It turns out fans and stymied onlookers weren't the only ones shocked by the news when it first hit last month—Chad Kroeger's parents were caught unawares by the engagement as well.

"You never know what your parents are going to say when you tell them you're getting married. Especially when it's with someone they haven't met yet!" Kroeger told Hello! Canada magazine. Yeah, parents are weird like that. Always wanting to meet the person you're getting married to.

Fortunately for Chavril, Mama Kroegs is all about the "Complicated" singer. "My mom is a huge fan of Avril's, so putting her on the speaker phone and telling her the news was hilarious and equally embarrassing," Kroeger said. Oh, come on, Chad. Nothing about your life is embarrassing.

So if Kroeger's parents didn't know beforehand, it's starting to sound like the only people who weren't shocked when Chavril announced their engagement were Chad Kroeger, Avril Lavigne and whoever cleans up their bedrooms in the morning.
