Hip hop beefs at award shows are as old as hip hop beefs at award shows, but in the age of the ubiquitous camera, it was only inevitable that the recent fight between Maybach Music Group's Gunplay and 50 Cent's G-Unit crew at the BET Hip Hop Awards would be broadcast for your tsk tsk-ing/enjoyment.
As is the case with most shaky hand-held footage, it’s a bit tricky discerning our rap protagonists and their actions, but all signs point to 50 and his crew getting into a scuffle with Gunplay and throwing him on the ground and against a metal fence. Gunplay naturally retaliated, fighting with an unidentified man before the police brought out the Mace (the pepper spray, not Ma$e, though that’d be way better and more surreal).
HipHopDX reports that the fight occurred during a tribute to Chris Lighty, the hip hop manager who committed suicide in August. G-Unit rapper Mike Knox sorta kinda not really explained the fight to TMZ thusly: "The only thing I can tell you is he was in the wrong place at the wrong time and he was acting a certain kinda way that he shouldn't have been actin' ... So, he got dealt with... He got his ass kicked."
So yeah, don’t act a certain kinda way around G-Unit, whatever that way is, lest you end up in auto-played WorldstarHipHop immortality.
