As a megastar with a penchant for spreading weirdness to the masses, Lady Gaga tried to snag South African group Die Antwoord as the opener for her tour back in March. And while that may be a coveted slot for most bands, Die Antwoord—who mix rap, rave and "poor but sexy" style—aren't most bands.
The outfit responded by calling her music "weak, superficial sh-t," which was their way of saying, "No thanks." Earlier this week, Die Antwoord took their feud to the playground-taunt level with their latest music video. Not only did their clip poke fun of Gaga's recent weight gain—the single is called "Fatty Boom Boom," after all—but it showed a Gaga look-alike (played by a man, of course) getting eaten by a lion. Which isn't, you know, terribly friendly.
The thing is, you can only cross Gaga so many times before she strikes back (so take note, Madonna). Mother Monster recently roared back on Twitter using the reliable "100,000 fans can't be wrong" argument: "I fink u freaky but you don't have a hit. Hundred thousand tickets sold in South Africa #thatmysh*t." She also posted, "I guess its not a good idea to tell someone you're a fan. never mind! we get it, you're not a little monster. WE GOT IT."
Well, Die Antwoord clearly don't think Gaga gets it, because they are not content to let this beef slide into distant memory like a certain infamous meaty dress. "Lady... even tho u r 'larger' than us... we still cooler than u... plus we don't have prawns in our private parts," they wrote on Facebook, throwing "Haha!" in for good measure. [FYI, their NSFW music video depicts a doctor pulling a king cricket out of Gaga's crotch.]
So… another fat joke and a diss about STDs. Zing? Check out the "Fatty Boom Boom" video below and tell us who you think comes out looking better here.
What kind of time warp?! '90s (and early 2000s) rock icons Fred Durst, Scott Weiland and Mark McGrath get photobombed by '70s icon Wayne Newton, aka Mr. Las Vegas. This should be all these guys' Christmas cards.
