Hip hop beefs have been around almost as long as the genre itself, with Rick Ross and Young Jeezy's recent fight at the BET Awards just the latest in a decades-long battle for MC supremacy. At its worst, it can be tragic, asinine and fatal, leading to the premature deaths of rap's best lyricists. But when kept on record, beef has led to some of the most creative tracks in hip hop, from MC Shan and Boogie Down Productions' battle for borough dominance in the 1980s to Jay-Z and Nas's "King of New York" back-and-forth battles in the early 2000s.

Take a listen to more than 30 years of hip hop diss tracks in our Rap Beef Spotify Playlist and just hope that Jeezy and Rozay can settle this one on record.
