Just yesterday in our Top 40 of 2012 poll, hit-making pop-rock outfit Maroon 5 were owning British-Irish boy band One Direction in the competition for the year's best video. In fact, 1D were getting hammered: More than 70% of voters cast their click for Maroon 5's "Payphone" video than 1D's "What Makes You Beautiful" clip.
One Directioneers must've gotten wind of the disproportionate voting, because this morning all that changed—votes for 1D skyrocketed. Right now, they're this close to acing out Maroon 5's Wiz Khalifa collabo and moving forward to Round 4 of our Top 40 of 2012 poll.
As it stands right now, "Payphone" is still leading "What Makes You Beautiful" by 2%. But given the crazy jump boy band fans gave 1D in less than 24 hours, you gotta think it's only a matter of time before they pull ahead of Maroon 5.
What do you think? Can anything stop a passionate One Direction fan? Or will Maroon 5—who have the No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and a Voice coach in their ranks—maintain the lead? We'll know on Monday! Until then, head to Fuse's Top 40 of 2012 poll and vote! Especially if you can't bear the thought of Adam Levine beating Harry Styles (or vice versa).
What kind of time warp?! '90s (and early 2000s) rock icons Fred Durst, Scott Weiland and Mark McGrath get photobombed by '70s icon Wayne Newton, aka Mr. Las Vegas. This should be all these guys' Christmas cards.
