Is Ryan Gosling a pop singer in an alternate universe? Possibly.

Backstreet Boy member A.J. McLean dropped an absolutely legendary boy band secret today, telling TMZ that one of Hollywood's hunkiest stars nearly joined his band. That star is Drive actor Ryan Gosling, who lived in the same Orlando apartment complex as McLean during his days in the New Mickey Mouse Club with Justin TimberlakeChristina Aguilera, and Britney Spears.

"I want to say to Mr. Ryan Gosling, I am so sorry I didn't call you back dude," McLean said, alluding that Gosling reached out to McLean for a spot in BSB.

But there's no bad blood between the stars. In fact, McLean promised that "if we ever want a sixth Backstreet Boy I'm going to call you," because apparently Gosling "can sing his ass off."

We can't even imagine the screaming that would ensue if Gosling ever crooned "I Want It That Way" or "Shape Of My Heart" with A.J., Brian, Nick, Kevin and Howie. Can you? But, hey, the kid can sing. Below, watch footage of a pre-teen Gosling crooning Jodeci's "Cry For You" with Timberlake and JC Chasez (who later formed *NSYNC) on The New Mickey Mouse Club TV show.
