The Strokes Return With New Wave-y Tune "One Way Trigger"
It's been months since news broke that the Strokes were working on album number five, and now we finally have the audio proof: "One Way Trigger," a brand new track from the leather-clad New York boys.
Julian Casablancas and his merry men just dropped the new tune on their site. "One Way Trigger" is an 1980s-esque jam with a deliriously bouncy synth riff strongly resembling a-ha's "Take On Me." And much like that New Wave fave, this song has some seriously impressive falsetto.
While the similarities here might not be as obvious as Bruce Springsteen cribbing from A Flock Of Seagulls' "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)," the "One Way Trigger" hook definitely sounds like a warped alteration on the classic a-ha riff. Reworking
Take on the new Strokes track above and decide for yourself.
