UPDATE: Green Day announced three intimate club gigs prior to their SXSW debut: Fox Theater in Pomona, CA on March 10, the Marquee in Tempe, AZ on March 11 and Tricky Falls in El Paso, TX on March 13. Tickets go onsale Friday, March 1 at 10am local time.

On March 15 in Austin, TX, one music institution formed in 1987 will meet another when Green Day play the South by Southwest music festival for the first time.

After postponing last year's tour to give Billie Joe Armstrong some time to hit the rehab circuit, Green Day are moving up their first comeback concert date by two weeks. Prior to their U.S. tour kicking off in Chicago on March 28, the punk trio will rock SXSW 2013 at the Moody Theater on Friday, March 15.

Their return to the stage will follow the world premiere of Broadway Idiot—a documentary about the band prepping their American Idiot album for the Great White Way—at Austin's Paramount Theater. Broadway Idiot will screen with ¡Cuatro!, a documentary about the band recording their 2012 trio of albums that debuted last month.

Just nobody mention Justin Bieber when he's onstage
