As I Lay Dying Singer Blames 'Roid Rage for Wife Murder Plot
Two weeks after being arrested, Tim Lambesis, frontman for metal band As I Lay Dying, has employed a unique defense to explain why he allegedly paid an undercover officer $1,000 to murder his wife: 'roid rage.
NME reports that a lawyer for Lambesis claims the singer began taking steroids and as a result, "His thought processes were devastatingly affected by his steroid use."
According to reports, the 32-year-old singer handed an envelope containing $1,000 in cash to an undercover agent and provided instructions—including photograph, address and security gate code—for killing his estranged wife. He reportedly also gave dates that he'd be with their children to give him an alibi. Lambesis' estranged wife Meggan was believed to have started divorce proceedings with the singer last year.
Lambesis pleaded not guilty on May 10 on charges of solicitation of murder. The singer's original lawyer, Anthony Salerno, told reporters at the time that his client was set up by a man he knew from his gym. "Law enforcement was being fed something by someone that I strongly believe was a snitch, was out to save his own skin and was trumping things up, exaggerating things," Salerno said.
In a statement, the singer's bandmates expressed shock over the arrest. "We have no more information than you do," said the band. "There are many unanswered questions and the situation will become clearer in the coming days and weeks. We'll keep you informed as best we can."
