J. Cole Drops Knockout Track From New Album 'Born Sinner'
If you thought J. Cole was insane to move up the release of his second album to compete with Kanye West's ridiculously-hyped Yeezus, you might want to reconsider your take on the situation. Based on the Born Sinner track he just dropped, the North Carolina MC has every reason to feel cocky when it comes to his new album.
"N****z Know" is alternately melancholy and celebratory, finding J. Cole rapping about his success and how it's changed him over a stuttering beat that he produced himself. Throw in some lyrical references to Biggie, a shout-out to Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff and some eerie background vocals, and it's safe to say Cole has crafted a total winner.
When Born Sinner and Yeezus drop on June 18, West will assuredly outsell the comparative newcomer. But based on the quality of Cole's latest, he won't overshadow him.
