Secretly-Recorded Nine Inch Nails Album Coming This Year
There are a lot of terms you might use to describe Trent Reznor. "Excessively creative," "troubled artist" and "kick-ass rocker" all come to mind. Hell, "Academy Award winner" is true thanks to his work with David Fincher. "Sneaky rascal" isn't exactly the first (or 15th) descriptor you'd expect to apply to the Nine Inch Nails frontman, but that's basically what he is based on a new post on the industrial rock outfit's Tumblr.
“I’ve been less than honest about what I’ve really been up to lately," Reznor wrote. "For the last year I’ve been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly f-cking great."
What?! Well, who cares. Unnecessary subterfuge aside, that's great news.
Following Reznor's split with Interscope in 2007, this will be the first NIN album to come out on a major label since Year Zero (the next two were released independently). But much like How to Destroy Angels' full-length, Columbia will release this album.
Reznor said that side project and his film score work "stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking Nine Inch Nails to a new place." What precisely that means remains to be seen, but you can bet your ass it won't be boring.
