Nicki Minaj on 'American Idol': "I Thought Mariah Carey Was My Friend"

"I came in thinking that we were going to be most fun judges of all time," the quirky MC told Ryan Seacrest

Nicki Minaj recently sat down with Ryan Seacrest, who asked about the ongoing tension with her fellow American Idol judge Mariah Carey.

"Imagine meeting someone you've loved your whole life," Minaj began, "then all of sudden feeling like you did something horrible to them, but you just don't know what you did. That's what my relationship with Mariah is." Eek.

"I really thought we were friends," she continued. "But God forbid you're quick on your toes or make someone laugh. But then you're making another person feel insecure?"—a reference to Carey's infamous diva behavior—"You shouldn't have to dim your light to let another person shine."

The Queens native added that, before her disenchantment with Mimi, she had high hopes for their onscreen chemistry.

"I came in to do Idol thinking that we were going to be most fun judges of all time," she added. "I was like, 'I love Mariah! We're going to be so good together. We're both funny, we're crazy. We have a past relationship.'"

The reality? Dismal ratings.

She didn't give deets on whether she'd be back next season ("That's the million-dollar question," she replied) but with Minaj going public with this feud, we're thinking one of these stars will definitely not return for another stint.
