It's Official: Randy Jackson Leaving 'American Idol'
It's a bad day for Randy Jackson. This morning he was fired as manager for fellow American Idol judge Mariah Carey, and now Jackson has announced his departure from the singing competition. He'll exit after the current season wraps on May 16.
"Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol, I have decided it is time to leave after this season," he told E! News. "I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It's been a life-changing opportunity."
Idol's network Fox has yet to comment on Jackson's exit.
Jackson is the only original judge from the 2002 series premiere, which featured Simon Cowell (who's now on Fox's other singing competition, The X Factor) and Paula Adbul (now focused on... well, who really knows).
It's been 12 great years, dawg. We'll miss you.
