The Black Eyed Pea told Rolling Stone that he's executive producing Spears' upcoming eighth album. "She really liked the way we worked because of my approach. So, they asked me to be involved in—not producing and writing every song, but to be an executive producer."
And that "approach" apparently includes many heart-to-heart lunch dates.
"I was like, 'OK, look, guys: me and Britney need to have lunch four times a month for three months before I even try to go in the studio with her,'" he revealed. "We need to talk. I gotta talk about the things that hurt her. I gotta talk about the things that make her concerned. I gotta talk to her about all the things that her fans want to talk to her about. I gotta be the vehicle between her and her fans."
The producer wants to help Spears step away from her signature club bangers. "We can't do another song about going on the dance floor," will.i.am explained. "Really? Didn't we see a bunch of Britney doing that already?
"Don't we want to see something that comes from her heart?"
Will.i.am added that the project is moving quickly, and that Britney "really liked Diplo," a new name to the many whispered collaborators for Spears' eight record.
Perhaps will.i.am (and his army of producers and beat-makers) will help Britney channel her personal life, including her divorce and other public struggles, into her new music. Are you ready for an all-new Britney?
