24 Hour Drumathon! Andrew W.K. Breaks World Record
Thursday evening in Times Square, party rocker and good-vibe ambassador Andrew W.K. broke a world record by drumming for 24 hours straight. Did this need to be done? What a silly question! Of course it did.
The Roots’ Questlove, Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith and scads of tourists swung by to cheer him on as he drummed his way to Guinness World Records immortality. At 7p.m. ET, he hit the mark. You can watch his countdown to the big moment on one of those new new-fangled Instagram videos you've been hearing so much about on Twitter.
Let’s take a moment to acknowledge how insanely exhausting it must have been to hit the skins for 24 straight. During a rock concert, a 10-minute solo is enough time for the drummer to work up a sweat (and allow half the audience time to slip away to the bathroom) so a day of banging away is a real achievement. We’re guessing Andrew needed some of those Playtex wipes after he wrapped.
