Sad news out of Honolulu, Hawaii this weekend: Bernadette Hernandez, the mother of R&B and pop star Bruno Mars, suddenly died on Saturday of a brain aneurysm, CNN reports. She was 55.

Hernandez, a hula dancer and singer who emigrated to Hawaii from the Philippines, was a big supporter of her son's music career. Mars, born Peter Gene Hernandez, started performing in his family's show as an Elvis impersonator at just 4 years old.

Mars is set to begin the Moonshine Jungle Tour on June 22. No word yet if the unexpected news will delay concert dates.

Mars received an outpouring of sympathy from his Twitter followers, including Rihanna, Boy George and K-pop star Bekah. See below.
