Tegan & Sara, Metric, Kid Koala Lead Canada's Polaris Prize Noms
The Polaris Music Prize honors the best album by a Canadian artist each year, and officials have just unveiled the Long List of 40 nominees for 2013. Releases by Tegan & Sara, Metric, Kid Koala and more all vie for the prestigious award—and a cool $30,000 check.
Last year, Feist won for her 2011 album Metals, beating out Drake, Grimes and Handsome Furs, among others.
The Polaris Prize is non-profit organization that celebrates creativity and diversity in Canadian recorded music. Its panel of 200 journalists, bloggers and broadcasters nominate artists and albums solely based on artistic merit, not sales.
See the Long List of nominees.
The Short List will be announced on July 16 at the Drake Hotel in Toronto. On September 23 the winner will be announced at the Polaris Gala at the Carlu in Toronto.
