Fresh off his VMA win for Artist to Watch, teen heartthrob Austin Mahone has been scooped up by Birdman for his YMCMB label. That means the squeaky-clean 17-year-old Texas singer is now labelmates with Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Limp Bizkit and, uh, Paris Hilton.
So… yeah. We'll see how long that proud virgin thing works out for him.
Thus far, the "What About Love" singer hasn't commented on joining YMCMB aside from retweeting Birdman's announcement (and the above pic). But he has recently indicated that he's looking to widen his horizons past his dance-pop sound. Following the VMAs, Mahone tweeted:
Happy I met @theweeknd the other night at the MTV awards!! He told me loved my music 😀 I'm a big fan hopefully we can work together one day!— Austin Mahone (@AustinMahone) August 29, 2013
So maybe we can expect different sounds, like sophisticated and super-sexy/steamy R&B, from Mahone in the future. Then again, maybe not.
Either way, this signing/endorsement should effectively shut down the shade Harry Styles threw at his fellow teen idol when the 1D member tweeted "Iggy Azalea should've won" following Mahone's VMA victory.
P.S. If you're a Mahomie, vote for Austin in our Best New Artist of 2013 poll.
