Jack White's The Dead Weather Working on New Music
The White Stripes are over, but Jack White has two rock bands left on his resume: The Raconteurs with songwriting partner Brendan Benson, and the Dead Weather, which he co-fronts with the Kills' Alison Mosshart. And as of this week, the bluesier of the two bands has gotten back together.
According to a tweet from White's Third Man Records, the Dead Weather were in the studio on Wednesday "working on new songs" and "searching for bodies." By the way, "searching for bodies" is rock shorthand for "we're doing cool sh-t but we can't say 'we're doing cool sh-t' because that would sound uncool. And uncool is the opposite of what we are."
We last heard from this outfit—which also includes QOTSA's Dean Fertita and the Raconteurs' Jack Lawrence—in 2010 when they dropped their sophomore album, the excellent Sea of Cowards. No slur on the Raconteurs, but White's material with the Dead Weather has always seemed more immediate and visceral, so we're pretty stoked he's going this route after his solo foray.
