Listen: Katy Perry Wails on New Single "Unconditionally"

The SoCal pop singer shows off her pipes on the second 'Prism' single

Studio-cooked pop hooks, kitschy-cute outfits and carnival-esque live performances: These are the ingredients in Katy Perry's Top 40 success. Diva-esque vocals? Not so much. But the singer-songwriter looks keen to prove her pipes with rock power ballad "Unconditionally," the second single from her uber-anticipated Prism album. Listen above.

After a hushed opening with minimal electronic production, "Unconditionally" explodes into a vocal showcase as Perry belts the simple yet strong lyrics over booming percussion: "Unconditionally, unconditionally / I will love you unconditionally / There is no fear now / Let go and just be free."

To promote Prism, Perry unleashed earworm "Roar," and experimented with trap ("Dark Horse") and '90s dance music ("Walking on Air"). But none flaunt the vocal prowess like "Unconditionally" does. August 29: Little Orphan Ed?

The "Don't" singer, Ed Sheeran, makes a special appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" as the lovable orphan, Annie. Donning the famous red dress, and the equally famous red hair, we think Sheeran would make a great understudy. The best part though? His little dog friend, Sandy on that skateboard.
