Von Trapps Blast Carrie Underwood, Wanted Anne Hathaway for ‘Sound of Music’
Last night NBC aired The Sound of Music Live! starring Carrie Underwood as Maria von Trapp, the real-life nun-turned-matriarch immortalized onscreen by Julie Andrews. The live stage remake earned the network its best ratings since 2009, but not without attracting numerous harsh critics.
Myles von Trapp Derbyshire, the great grandson of the real Maria von Trapp, ripped Underwood apart. "It's just upsetting that this could potentially be the final broadcast of our story," he told ABC News. "Although her voice is amazing, she doesn't have acting experience. It's the overall image: She's a country star, she won American Idol, she's very public in kind of a tabloid way. Now we have this very glossy, tabloid figure playing this role."
In fact, the von Trapps had discussed who would have been a better pick. Their choice? An Oscar winner.
