Katy B Updates The Ronettes' Girl Group Version of "Sleigh Ride"
Just in time for Christmas, British diva-in-waiting Katy B has delivered a holiday treat. The versatile vocalist (she can do everything from dance-pop to R&B to dubstep) covered the perennial favorite "Sleigh Ride" for the BBC, and it's a straightforward, lovely delight.
Katy B sings it in the style of the Ronettes, who famously covered it in 1963 for what is arguably the greatest Christmas album of the rock era, A Christmas Gift For You From Phil Spector. KB apes the Ronettes' arrangement and jaunty pace, but she injects a little more R&B flavor to the vocals and segues into "Jingle Bells" before wrapping the live-in-studio performance.
Listen above and keep an eye out for her second album, Little Red, in 2014. And for 15 Christmas songs from 2013 that don't suck, check out this killer list of modern holiday classics you may have missed.
