John Legend Captivates at Private Super Bowl Week Show
GRAMMY-winning R&B singer/songwriter John Legend performed for an exceptionally small, lucky crowd Wednesday night at Manhattan's McKittrick Hotel as part of the week-long Citi Presents Evenings with Legends series leading up to Super Bowl XLVIII. The retro, dimly-lit venue had a glamorous '20s jazz club vibe and was filled wall-to-wall with writers, photographers, fans and friends (Legend’s wife Chrissy Teigen was spotted at a table front-and-center).
Perched behind a baby grand piano for the 90-minute set, Legend's gorgeous chords and alternately soaring and sensual vocals captivated the entire audience. The set list included Legend's biggest hits (debut single "Used To Love U," "Save Room"), two great covers (a moody take on Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing in The Dark" and the Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun") and fan favorites ("Tonight (Best You Ever Had)," "Again" and more).
Legend closed the show with "Ordinary People," arguably his signature song, but he truly ended the night with an encore featuring his new (and soon to be biggest) hit "All of Me." Pretty sure I caught John and Chrissy making googly eyes at each other as the song ended. All together now... Awww!
