Manchester Orchestra Flex Jam Muscles on New Song "Every Stone"
Manchester Orchestra seemed ready to set the world ablaze when they dropped "Top Notch," the band's first new single in nearly three years, about a month ago. The plowing, guitar-heavy track delivered true on frontman Andy Hull's promise for "super-aggressive guitar rock," and we couldn't have been happier about it.
Now the Atlanta quintet have released "Every Stone," the second single from the upcoming Cope, and are demonstrating the chemistry that identifies a band on their fourth studio album. The track is decidedly less brash than "Top Notch," whose heavy riffs nearly drowned out Hull's signature yelps, but it leaves as big of an imprint upon first listen.
Hull's vocals are more low-key on this song. He delivers the refrain, "Every stone I've thrown has gone away, gone away," complemented by a smooth melody. But for the last 75 seconds in the bridge and outro, Manchester Orchestra are straight-up jamming, building up an avalanche of guitar-led rock and roll. The song evaporates in a thrilling ending as the drums pick up and Hull's voice comes back into the fold.
If you want more Man Orch, the band released a music video for "Top Notch" yesterday and Hull discussed the themes on Cope in a recent interview. The album is out on April 1 via Loma Vista / Favorite Gentlemen and it can be preordered in the band's webstore.
