Football Pros Pick MVP Popstar at NFL Honors Red Carpet

Last night, on the eve of the Super Bowl XLVII, NFL elites gathered at Radio City Music Hall for the NFL Honors award ceremony to celebrates the best plays and players of the 2013 season.

Naturally, the Fuse crew had one thing in mind: music! Fuse’s Esteban Serrano and Katie Van Buren grilled NFLers and asked them which artist they’d honor as a different MVP: Most Valuable Popstar.

“Obviously Beyonce,” LeSean McCoy, running back for the Philadelphia Eagles, said. “She’s like Peyton Manning. But I like Lorde, she’s doing her singing and blowing up.”

Reggie Bush, running back for the Detroit Lions, said his favorite artist of the year is Macklemore, “because he is new and up-and-coming and burst onto the scene. He has some great hits, and he’s making the right moves.”

Former NFL and MLB player, turned sports analyst, Deion Sanders said his MVP is this year’s Pepsi Super Bowl XLVIII Halftime Show performer: Bruno Mars

“I really love what he stands for,” Sanders said. “I really love his music, I really love his tone. He’s a good kid.”

When it came to choosing their ultimate fantasy league of musicians playing football, these pro stars went straight to the top.

“I’d have Jay Z as a quarterback,” Bush said, “‘cause he’s a smart man. I’d have Daft Punk somewhere. I’d have Snoop Dogg there because Snoop is a big football fan.”

Matt Forte, running back for the Chicago Bears, said his first pick is Jay Z. “Third pick I would go with J Cole, and for my fourth round I’d go with Lil Wayne,” Forte said.

“I’d have to put Future in there,” Jamaal Charles, running back for the Kansas City Chiefs, said. “And Jay Z and Lil Wayne, and Drake.”
