Slayer Debut "Implode," First New Song in 5 Years
The impossibly fast guitar solos are back, friends! Nearly a year after the passing of guitarist Jeff Hanneman, Slayer have returned with "Implode," the band's first song since 2009.
The track plays with classic metal motifs: darkness, Satan and fantastically heavy lines like, "Extermination of mankind / extermination of this world."
"Implode" is available on the band's website. Slayer have tentatively scheduled a new album for early 2015 on an unnamed imprint of Nuclear Blast, severing their ties with Rick Rubin's label American Recordings.
Bassist Tom Araya released a statement explaining the move. "Rick has played a huge role in our career [and] we've made some great albums with him but today is a new day, record companies don't play the kind of role they once did, and we really like the idea of going out on our own, connecting directly with our fans, and Nuclear Blast is fired up about taking on that challenge with us."
