Inevitably, Whitney Houston was going to become the subject of a Lifetime Original Movie. But the cable TV network announced a few details about the upcoming flick that's made us think it might not be a total joke.

Lifetime's press release says that "Whitney Houston chronicles the headline-making relationship between the iconic singer, actress, producer and model, and singer, songwriter Bobby Brown." For those familiar, Houston's ex-husband Brown was long speculated as the reason she initially turned to drugs, despite his denying it multiple times

The movie will follow Houston and Brown "from the time they first met at the very height of their celebrity, to their courtship and tumultuous marriage. Throughout it all, difficulties followed the superstar couple while they dealt with the overwhelming rewards and consequences of the fame and fortune created by Whitney’s meteoric rise that would soon overshadow them both." Sounds juicy.

Adding even more intrigue, Angela Bassett is directing the flick. Bassett and Houston both co-starred in 1995 film Waiting to Exhale that featured Whit's No. 1 single "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)." EW reports that the Oscar nominee will not star in the film, but she could have another role. Does she know some secrets? Exhale came out just three years after the couple tied the knot.

"I have such regard for both Whitney's and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story," Bassett said. "Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I'm beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world."

Look out for Whitney Houston next year.
