“She looks so perfect standing there in my American Apparel underwear...”
If for some reason you haven't heard the breakout single by rising pop-punk band 5 Seconds of Summer you should get familiar...fast. The Australian quintet's "She Looks So Perfect" (listen below) is already a Top 25 hit and their debut EP hit No. 2 on the Billboard 200, all helping the guys secure a One Direction-esque buzz ahead of their debut full-length.
With its near-perfect hook inspired by American Apparel's famous undies, "She Looks So Perfect" had fans curious as to whether the trendy clothing brand would be upset for using their namesake. When Fuse talked to the band in April, bassist Calum Hood said that American American hadn't responded to the song or any type of co-sign. "There's been no free underwear," the 18-year-old said. "Which is sad because we're running out on tour."
But American Apparel is finally opening up about the track...and they're, to quote 5SOS, "so down."
"We're flattered anytime we're mentioned in someone's music or art—especially a big summer anthem like this," a rep for American Apparel told Fuse. "Naturally, we also think women look great in our underwear."
So, there you have it 5SOS fans. No scoffing, no lawsuit and now that we know American Apparel has deemed the track a "big summer anthem," maybe some clean undies are on their way to the guys after all?
