GWAR's Dave Brockie Died of a Heroin Overdose
Sad news out of Richmond, VA today. CBS6 reports that GWAR lead singer Dave Brockie, who passed away unexpectedly in March, died of "acute heroin toxicity"—or simply put, a heroin overdose—according to the Virginia State Medical Examiner's Office.
The founder of the futuristic alien metal band went by the stage name Oderus Urungus; the band's most recent album was 2013's Battle Maximus.
After his untimely passing, the remaining members announced they will play the fifth annual GWAR B-Q on August 16, with tickets going on-sale June 6. The band is also opening a restaurant called GWARbar to fulfill one of Brockie's life-long wishes.
