Ed Sheeran's 'X' Scores Best Pop Album Debut of 2014
Maybe it's the Muppet video, or the hair, or the terrible tattoos, or the posse of totally famous people surrounding him at all times, but whatever it is, Ed Sheeran's doing it right, because X just had the best release week of 2014.
Sheeran just ousted Lana Del Rey's Ultraviolence from the top spot on the Billboard 200, debuting at #1 after moving over 200,000 units. That makes X the pop album with the strongest debut week in 2014, and it's the third best-performing release across all genres so far this year. In his native UK, Sheeran's the big cheese as far as best-selling albums are concerned, as X's UK sales topped out over 180,000 and scored him the distinction of having the fastest-selling record of the year.
To celebrate (but not too hard so that he can tidy up immediately afterwards), Sheeran will hit TODAY on July 4 and the Philly Fourth of July Jam later that night.
