Given that Lorde and Katniss Everdeen are kindred spirits in the bad-assery department, it makes total sense that the Pure Heroine singer was put in charge of curating the soundtrack for the penultimate Hunger Games movie, Mockingjay: Part 1

Lorde's going to be providing the movie's lead single, in addition to scouring the sound waves for the rest of the bands featured on the Mockingjay soundtrack, which will be released by Republic Records this fall. This is the first endeavor of this nature that Lorde has taken on, and she's thrilled about it.

"Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly-anticipated film was a challenge, but I jumped at the chance,” she said in a statement via Republic. “The cast and story are an inspiration for all musicians participating and, as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience. I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people.”

We think it will, too! Mockingjay: Part 1 will be released in theaters on November 21. In the meantime, you can catch Lorde at Lollapalooza and Boston Calling in September.
