Everyone has that uncle. You know the one, the guy who gives advice in a sort of backhanded way: "Smile, the worst is yet to come! We'll be lucky if we ever see the sun." Mikky Ekko is that uncle with his new single "Smile," which celebrates life through trying to understand mortality.
It's the latest track from the up-and-coming Nashville singer/songwriter's debut album, Time, one that's sure to delight and sadden simultaneously.
You probably know Ekko as the guy behind Rihanna's "Stay," but the musician has proven his worth as a talent to watch, and "Smile" is the kind of downward-moving ballad that keeps you captivated despite how sad he sounds.
He claims, "'Smile' captures that moment when you're a teenager and you lose somebody for the first time and you don't know what to do about it."
Heavy and hypnotizing. Listen to "Smile" above.
