Neon Hitch might be the most unconventional pop singer around: one glance at her and you know she's bonkers, all color and alien-like clothing choices. Her music, and her background story, reflect that. She once crashed with Amy Winehouse when she was homeless, she's a gypsy and she has the blessing of Gym Class Heroes frontman Travie McCoy, who truly believes she's going to take over the world.
There's a good reason for that. Just check out her crazy cover of the Spice Girls' hit, "Wannabe!" She slows the tune down, adopting a sort of sultry and sentimental voice. It's largely a pop hit, but the energy is more invested in intimacy, with the sound equal parts Winehouse and early Nelly Furtado. Hitch changes some of the lyrics to reflect her off-beat edginess, including the chorus, "If you wanna be my lover / You gotta f*ck with my friends." Yep!
In the video Neon wanders around Venice Beach in an extremely gregarious outfit. There's her Madonna-channeling bodice, her cotton candy pink hair, her myriad of costume store jewelry and bright blue lips. Truly a sight to behold!
