We first became familiar with Danish up-and-coming pop act MØ at Austin City Limits, when we sat down with the singer to talk all things teenage years. She made an even bigger pop a few months later alongside Iggy Azalea with the dynamic and demanding "Beg For It" track. And now it appears the charismatic chanteuse is at it again, this time time sharing a song of her own: the emotive "New Year's Eve," released just in time for, well...New Year's Eve.

The tune plays to MØ's pop-rock edge, marrying massive piano pieces with her recognizable, deep voice.

At her most enthusiastic, MØ sounds like Charli XCX or Sia, at her most somber, Lana Del Rey. She repeats, "Have a happy New Year's Eve" in the chorus in a way that feels less than promising. On a day that promises positivity, she's a cynic, a realist. It feels like December's response to "Summertime Sadness," coping with a certain sense of loss during a time of joy.
