Update (2/27): After revealing she recorded a song for the new documentary The Hunting Ground last month, Lady Gaga's "Till It Happens to You" has surfaced. The exposé-style film, detailing the rise in rape cases in American colleges, premiered last night. Lucky for us, a sneaky Little Monster found a way to record and post the track.

In the same vein of biting Gaga ballads like "Dope" and "Speechless," this one spotlights Mother Monster's voice among classical production, keeping the focus on the message of the lyrics. The poignant chorus goes, "Til it happens to you / You don't know how it feels, how it feels / Til it happens to you, you won't know, it won't be real / No, it won't be real, won't know how I feel."

It's a powerful message. Gaga, who has spoken about being sexually assaulted herself, offers empathy to rape survivors with her opening lines: "You tell me, 'Hold your head up, hold your head up and be strong / When you fall you gotta get up, you gotta get up and move on' / Tell me how the hell would you know?"

Veteran songwriter and seven-time Academy Award nominee Diane Warren, who worked on the track with Gaga, recently said she hopes she'll get "lucky" and win an Oscar for "Til It Happen to You" next year. Read on below for more info about the song and The Hunting Ground.

Original Story (1/23): Lady Gaga's 2013 was all about Artpop. 2014 focused on Cheek to Cheek, her Tony Bennett collaboration. Now Mother Monster is beginning 2015 with a contribution to what she calls a "very important" documentary.

The singer announced on Twitter that she's got a new song titled "Till It Happens to You" coming soon. The track was recorded for The Hunting Ground, a new exposé-style documentary premiering at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. The film details the rise in rape cases in U.S. colleges, and the effects on the victims and institutions.

Gaga added that she recorded the song with Diane Warren, a.k.a. the queen of writing classic ballads. From Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me" to Toni Braxton's "Un-Break My Heart" to Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," the GRAMMY-winning songwriter is famous for delivering touching tracks—so don't be surprised if "Till It Happens to You" is a tearjerker.

There's no indication of what the song will sound like, and the "G.U.Y." singer hasn't indicated where she's drawing inspiration from lately. Given Gaga's recent genre hopping—from forward-thinking dance music on Artpop to jazz standards on Cheek to Cheek—there's really no telling what we're in for with "Till It Happens to You." But we're pumped!
