Update (5/1): Get ready for new tunes, Green Day fans! After producer Rob Cavallo spilled the beans about new music, Rolling Stone hit up frontman Billie Joe Armstrong for details:

"I've got, like, four or five songs right now. I'm gonna take it really slow. I'm just gonna make sure every moment is inspired and that we have something that's really special to us. And right now with the songs that we have, it's going in the right direction."

Original Story (4/24): After getting inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the first year they were eligible and celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their rock opera American IdiotGreen Day are finally enjoying the kind of fame and success they always deserved. But that doesn't mean they're slowing down! The group's last full-length arrived as three separate records, ¡Uno!¡Dos!¡Tré! three years ago. Now the California punks are back in the studio.

In a recent interview with UK magazine Kerrang!, longtime Green Day producer Rob Cavallo opened up about the group's new material.

“I recently heard five new songs that Billie has written and demoed,” Cavallo said. "Let me tell you, they were just fantastic. He is absolutely at the top of his game. Fans can be sure that when they do return, the music will be amazing.”
