16 Times A$AP Rocky Made Himself Archbishop of Acronyms & Abbreviations

Rap's greatest grammarian is back, and his sophomore LP—'At.Long.Last.A$AP,' a.k.a. 'A.L.L.A.'—continues his obsession with wordy shortcuts

"L$D"

Album: 2015's At.Long.Last.A$AP

What's it stand for? Traditionally, without the dollar $ign? The psychedelic drug lysergic acid diethylamide. Here, though, Rocky sings lines about "love/sex/dreams," and some versions of the A.L.L.A. single have a parenthetical in the title, making it "L$D (LOVE x $EX x DREAMS)."

Spin Fuse's A$AP Rocky A.C.R.O.N.Y.M.$. playlist on Spotify.

"Long Live A$AP"

Album: 2013's Long.Live.A$AP

What's it stand for? ASAP has, since the dawn of time and business emails, translated to "as soon as possible." It indicates the imperativeness of a goal or task, such as ordering a pizza or completing a document. A$AP with a dollar sign has, since the dawn of time and the A$AP Mob, been a cool name for guys like A$AP Ferg, A$AP Twelvyy, the recently deceased A$AP Yams and a bunch more.

"Keep it G" feat. SpaceGhostPurrp & Chace Infinite

Mixtape: 2012's Live.Love.A$AP

What's it stand for? Keep it ginormous and/or gangster. The music video (with a shorter version of the track) kicks off with Rocky explaining A$AP means "Acronym Symbolizing Any Purpose." Another nomination, from one of his dudes? "Articulate Sour Diesel and Purp."

4 / 17

"JD"

Album: 2015's At.Long.Last.A$AP

What's it stand for? Dean; James Dean. (Definitely not James Deen, sorry.)

5 / 17

"Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2 (LPFJ2)"

Album: 2015's At.Long.Last.A$AP

What's it stand for? This is sort of a Jeopardy! format situation; the answer comes first, eventually offering you a little shorthand.

6 / 17

"U.O.E.N.O. (Remix)" by Rocko feat. A$AP Rocky, Future, Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa & 2 Chainz

Mixtape: 2013's Gift of Gab 2

What's it stand for? You don’t even know (...how lame Rick Ross's date rape line is.)

"M'$" feat. Lil Wayne

Album: 2015's At.Long.Last.A$AP

What's it stand for? Millions. (Of dollar$$$$$$$.)

8 / 17

"LVL"

Album: 2013's Long.Live.A$AP

What's it stand for? "Level," but in video game speak.

9 / 17

"1Train" feat. Kendrick Lamar, Danny Brown, Big K.R.I.T., Yelawolf, Joey Bada$$

Album: 2013's Long.Live.A$AP

What's it stand for? New York City's 1 train, only without that pesky space in the middle.

10 / 17

"T.K.O. (Black Friday Remix)" by Justin Timberlake feat. J. Cole, Pusha T & A$AP Rocky

Album: 2013's The 20/20 Experience – 2 of 2 (originally, pre-remix)

What's it stand for? Technical knockout, a boxing/fighting judgment. But how crazy is the abbreviation synergy here besides that? "J." = Jermaine, "T" = Terrence and/or Thornton, Pusha's first and last names. J.T. (Justin Timberlake, not a Cole/Pusha superduo) knew what he was doing here.

11 / 17

"PMW (All I Really Need)" feat. Schoolboy Q

Album: 2013's Long.Live.A$AP

What's it stand for? "Pussy/money/weed," three things Rocky appreciates/requires.

12 / 17

"Max B" feat. Joe Fox

Album: 2015's At.Long.Last.A$AP

What's it stand for? Max Brenner, the bald chocolatier? No; Max B, the period-less 37-year-old Harlem hip hop artist. His given name's Charly Wingate, so you'll probably have as much luck figuring out the B as you will discovering President Harry S Truman's middle name.

13 / 17

"r - Cali"

Album: 2013's The Music of Grand Theft Auto V

What's it stand for? Cali is a fairly common abbreviation for the state of California. The R. seems to just make it an R. Kelly reference, so imagine it as whatever you want. "Really Cali"? "Royally Cali"? "Radically Cali"? The sky's the lmt.

14 / 17

"UGK" by Main Attrakionz feat. A$AP Rocky

What's it stand for? UGK is a rap duo—come on—which itself is an abbreviation. For Underground Kingz.

15 / 17

"24K (All Gold") by Trips-N-Slim feat. A$AP Rocky

Mixtape: 2013's The Preface

What's it stand for? 24 carats. It's a thing about gold, the popular precious metal. Could also be $24,000, but the title indicates that's not it.

16 / 17

"Canal St." feat. Bones

Album: 2015's At.Long.Last.A$AP

What's it stand for? "St." is frequently used to shorten both "street" and "saint." This one's the former, a thoroughfare in in downtown New York City.
