In March, Finding Neverland evolved from a Johnny Depp-starring film about the family that inspired Peter Pan into a Broadway production with Kelsey Grammar and Glee's Matthew Morrison. To promote the stage show, a slew of music industry superstars—including Jennifer Lopez, Ellie Goulding, Nick Jonas, Zendaya and Pentatonix—have teamed up to cover the showtunes. Today we get to hear Christina Aguilera's contribution, a lullaby-like take on the track "Anywhere But Here."
The cut opens with soft piano chords and dialed-down vocals from Xtina, recalling the singer's underrated 2010 single "You Lost Me." Sweeping orchestration gets added to the mix as the diva's belts grow stronger until she's serving her signature ad-libs by song's end.
The song's lyrics perfectly sum up the Peter Pan sentiments with lyrics like, "Picture a land where you never have been / Where life is a eternal and evergreen / The future of happiness and certainty / You're loved and you're there lost for now and eternity."
Not only is the track is a nice fit for Christina musically, but you may recall that she's a former Disney girl too—never forget her time on The Mickey Mouse Club with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake! Coincidentally, Xtina was in Disneyland (dressed like Minnie Mouse, nonetheless) yesterday to chat about her love of the theme park, The Voice and much more on Live With Kelly & Michael. Watch below:
