Here comes the first, a lot like the last: When The Late Show With Stephen Colbert hits the air next month, Kendrick Lamar will appear as the new late night host's first musical guest.

Of course, Lamar's inclusion has its own historical perspective. The rapper was Colbert's final musical guest on his previous show, The Colbert Report. Back then, Lamar was still prepping his new album To Pimp a Butterfly; this time around, he's got the record—and perhaps more—to showcase.

Colbert announced the lineup Monday at the Television Critics Association press tour, Variety reports.

Lamar will join George Clooney on the inaugural episode, which airs September 8 on CBS.

Future guests for the show have not yet been announced.
