By now, Pharrell is about a year removed from “Happy,” his inescapable 2014 jam that earned him a Video of the Year nomination at the last MTV VMAs.

This year? Well, no nominations to speak of, but the singer and prolific producer still dropped by for “Freedom,” his new song that pushes forth its predecessor’s ebullient message. Pharrell leapt onto tables, sported a brand new hat (it's probably not gonna start any memes, sorry guys) and effortlessly crooned the song's cheerful message.

After something as heavy as Kanye West's Video Vanguard Award acceptance speech that preceded it? (The one that gave us hopes for Yeezy's 2020 run for President?) Nice little breather, for sure.

As for a new album? Pharrell has been mum on the topic, but he’s maintained his slate of production spots as of late, most recently via Snoop Dogg’s new record Bush.
